from your pastor…
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. God has made everything suitable for its time. Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 11a.
The month of May is a special month to me because it was the month I was born! It was also the month I graduated from high school, from college, and from seminary in different years of my life! Graduating from college for me was the impossible dream, and I will never forget the joy of that day. It was so special. Jeff and I were in the same class, so we graduated together and our families were present, too. We got a group photo that day that I will always remember.
Graduations usually happen in May, and they are significant transition periods. For younger school children, it is a happy time because they know they will be out of school for summer break! Summer time will bring swimming, and hiking, and picnics and travel and lots of fun with food on the grill in the backyard. In my family, we used to play volleyball in the backyard and families from the neighborhood would join in. It was so much fun. As summer approaches, we groan about the heat, but the summer gives us longer days in which to spend time with our loved ones. Time in life passes so quickly that we must make the most of it while we can. I encourage you to spend extra time this summer with your family and your friends.
Our church family is planning a fun time together at the Ballpark. The New Orleans Zephyrs are now the New Orleans Baby Cakes. Jack Davis gets us a group rate and it is so much fun to go together as a church family. On Friday, May 19, it is Super Heroes night. You are encouraged to costume as your favorite Super Hero or Heroine. We will also enjoy fireworks, and some of us might actually watch the ballgame and root for the home team!!!
In New Orleans, the annual Jazz Festival is happening in early May. The Satchmo Festival will come in August. There is always the Audubon Zoo and the Aquarium and mini-golf at City Park and a new golf course, too! In other words, there are loads of opportunities to have fun in May and all summer long. Don’t let the season of life pass you by without enjoying some quality time with your family, friends, and church family.
Enjoy the time that God has given you while you still can!!
Have fun!
